Review Policy

If you are a publisher or an author and would like me to review one of your novels, I would be really happy to do so. While I prefer physical copies (ARCs, finished copies), I also have no problem accepting e-books for Kindle (.mobi, .pdf) since I'm living in Germany and know that shipping costs can be quite high. I am also accepting books that have been self-published as long as it sounds like something I'd like to read.

Genres I'm reviewing:

  • Young Adult Fiction
When you've already taken a closer look at my blog, you can see that I'm mainly reading and reviewing YA novels. Within the YA section, I'm reading the following selection of genres:
    • Paranormal
    • (Urban) Fantasy
    • Contemporary
    • Dystopian
    • sometimes other genres (e.g. mystery, historical)
I prefer all of the books I'm reading to have at least a little bit of romance / a love story. So if the book you want me to read has no romance at all, there is a high chance that I might not like it.
(Note: I'm not reading Middle Grade novels.)

  • Chick-Lit
    Sometimes I also like reading a light-hearted chick-lit novel.

Once I have accepted and received a novel for review, I will try to read it as soon as possible. Usually I read books I have been requested to read in chronological order (the first book I have received will be the first I'm reading), but if you prefer a certain date for the review to be finished (e.g. close to the publication) I am of course willing to make exceptions. Just tell me whether you have any preferences.

Keep in mind that providing the book does not guarantee a positive review. All of my reviews are honest and are based on my own opinion. If I do not like a book, I will admit this. But if I am completely in love with a book, I'll say this, too.

My reviews consist of:

  • Cover image
  • Basic information
    • title
    • author
    • publisher
    • date of publication
    • number of pages
    • if available, information about other books of the series
  • A summary taken from Goodreads etc.
  • My rating
  • My first impression of the novel
  • A detailed review of the story, which I try to keep at a minimum of 300 words
My rating system:

5.0 / 5 - If you haven't read it yet, you have to do so. One of my favorites.
4.0 / 5 - A really great story, which I can definitely recommend.
3.0 / 5 - Not perfect, but definitely a nice read. You should give it a chance.
2.0 / 5 - Some nice aspects, but I missed something special.
1.0 / 5 - Sadly I didn't really like it.

Please remember that this is just my personal rating system and especially my own opinion. Even when I really dislike a certain book, it might be possible that this could be your favorite story.

All of my reviews will be posted on my blog and on Goodreads. Most of the time I'm also linking them on Twitter and Fictional Distraction's Facebook page. If you want the review to be posted anywhere else (e.g. Amazon, Smashwords, Barnes & Noble), please tell me.

I'd also love to host blog tour stops, interviews, guest posts and/or giveaways, if you'd like me to. If there are any questions left, feel free to send me an email (fictionaldistraction AT live DOT de), message me on Twitter (@carinalaura) or leave a comment below.

Best wishes,
