Goodreads Summary:
Sometimes you just have to take flight.

A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi.

Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.
I'd recommend this for an older audience (15+).

My Rating: 4.0 / 5

First thoughts:
With very interesting and fairly surprising paranormal aspects, Flight turned out to be a very fast and addictive read. While I might have wished for more "things to happen", I liked the introduction I got into this series' world and am looking forward to spend more time with Allie, Levi and their friends - and their enemies.

More detailed:
I had already read the first two books of Alyssa's Afterglow series which I had definitely enjoyed. But nonetheless I was positively surprised by Flight's more grown-up atmosphere and the very addicting storyline and unique paranormal aspects that made it quite hard for me to put it down.

When I read Flight's summary for the first time I was pulled in by the hotel aspet immediately and was reminded of Aimee Agresti's Illuminate, which I absolutely loved. But while both books might have small similarities, they are both different stories that have their own appeal. Still, I'd recommend Flight for everyone who didn't like Illuminate's rather slow pace and wants something that moves forward a bit faster.

The love story has the typical bad boy appeal, which I still can't get enough of despite its overuse in the Young Adult genre. Allie and Levi are a very interesting couple and witnessing their relationship grow closer is a very fun thing to do and made me swoon more than once.

At the same time though, I felt as the storyline concentrated a tiny bit too much on their relationship and could've benefited from a little more action and other problems. Luckily that part picked up toward the end and certain scenes almost made me wish that I'd been happy with just reading about Allie and Levi's flirting. I'd definitely recommend this for a slightly older audience.

All in all, Flight turned out to be even more enjoyable than I expected and I can't wait to read more - especially after an ending that has the potential to break a couple of hearts.

  4. Great review! Glad you liked it, because I've been curious about it for a while. I agree - there seems to be a bad boy in nearly every book, but I still can't get enough of them :P Also, I want to read more books set in New Orleans and I'm curious about what supernatural elements appear in the story. Plus, it's New Adult!

  8. Oh, I just added this one to my TBR pile! I love older YA novels, and I can't seem to get enough of bad boys, either! I do get aggravated as well when the relationship-part of the story gets in the way, but I'm glad it wasn't for long! I'll definitely be picking this one up--thanks for your wonderful review, Carina!
