New Distractions #01

If you spend half a week thinking about whether to continue participating in In My Mailbox or not, it's probably the best decision to not do so anymore. Nonetheless I don't necessarily feel comfortable slapping a new name on an old meme, so I have no choice but credit Kristi from The Story Siren for the inspiration for this post. That doesn't mean I'm supporting her actions, but in the end this kind of post isn't my idea. I'm not a person for such drama like the one we had last week and so far I've managed to stay out of it, but taking this step feels necessary to distance myself from everything.

Kristi's blog was the first book blog I've ever come across and read, so I probably don't even need to say that I'm disappointed - more by the lack of a true apology than what she did in the first place. People make mistakes all the time (and yes, I feel comfortable calling this a "mistake", because that's what you call things you shouldn't have done), but you should be able to stand up and admit them - and apologize properly for what you did. Then forgiveness is a lot easier.

It's not my place to forgive Kristi, but I need to forget before being able to read her blog again like I used to. I'm one of the bloggers who were inspired by her love for YA books and who looked up to her without truly knowing her. I won't judge her as a person, but as a blogger, as a role model for other bloggers. I won't say that I'll never read her blog again, but for now I need a break.

And despite never having wanted to say anything, this is already too long. I'm sure you're all sick of the drama and yet another three paragraphs about it is more than enough. Sorry! Let's get to the awesome books I got last week:

The books I received:

  2. Great haul. I love the cover of The Blessed (the tattoo one) and it really sounds interesting.
I really want to read Timepiece but I have not read Hourglass yet so I guess it's another book to add to my list of books to read.

  4. The Blessed has such a stunning cover! I haven't seen this before but I love it - it does sound interesting too!

And I'm with you on everything you just said - Kristi's wasn't the first blogs I've ever read as a new blogger but I'm shocked all the same. I started a new meme as well so I'm not going to do IMM anymore.

Here's my Showcase Sunday post :)

    Happy reading hun! xxx

  7. Hi dear!

well say btw! However, I am one of those who will not support her blog anymore. I remember reading the post "10 things I hate about your blog" at the story siren months ago, and then during the week I read the original one. Oh My... Then I had no doubt that the accusations were true. I was never really one of her readers. I read like one or two of her post per month. But now I simply wont read anything anymore. I doubt that her content is entirely hers. Nobody can blame myself. She plagiarized, and now I will never trust her content anymore. I wonder if she has plagiarized other blog post and reviews too. It is sad to say, but I dont want to be part of someone's blog who lack of such minimal ethical code.

btw, I love your books my dear! The Blessed cover is gorgeous!! ^.^ muah!

  16. Super haul. You know, I'm glad you're so straight forward in your write up to this post. I had no idea about all the drama of last week, but I figured something was up when I went to sign up to the IMM and found that despite having come to the site late I'd managed to post a link in the top 60's...that got me wondering. Then I came across everyone's new posts, so I dog around and figured it all out.

Your post makes sense, and your books are great. I downloaded Elemental for free, and have just requested Glitch on Netgalley (hope I get accepted!)Sweetly sounds great, I still want to pick up The Sisters Red. Happy reading. this week my post's still labelled IMM

  19. I actually haven't noticed anything going on, but I guess that is because I don't read many English/American book blogs. The Story Siren is not among them, but maybe that's good the way it is?
Anyway, your new books look great. Despite having heard a lot about Jackson Pearce's books, I've never read one of them, so I'm waiting for your review... :D
The cover of "The Blessed" is awesome!
    Enjoy your books :)

  22. Lot's of books this week :)

Why is it so hard to get Urban Decay, etc. makeup in the Germany? You could order it from Amazon, but I suppose shipping might be expensive. The book Depository should expand into beauty haha.

    1. I seriously have no idea, but yes - it's especially the shipping that would make it way too expensive for a poor student like me. :D But that's a great idea... they could start "The Cosmetic Depository." ;)

  24. Great haul! I really want to read Glitch! I think you and I seem to have a very similar opinion on the recent situation - I spent the whole week debating as well! I ended up doing an IMM today but soon after posting it I realized that my choice was clear - I needed to switch to another meme.

Thanks again for letting me know about Timepiece on NetGalley! I'm so excited to read it! (And I thanked you in my IMM, too.) ;) Happy reading!

  32. Everyone seems to be drawing out this big scandal with The Story Siren, and I was a little late coming to the party, but I think that it would be best to just put an end to it. It is done and finished - in the past. Time to move on.

    Anyways...

Wow, so many awesome books - I am so jealous! I love the cover to Sweetly, it is so creative and unique, something that books these days seem to be lacking.

Thanks for sharing and dropping by my StS!
