Character Interview + Giveaway: Jaguar Sun by Martha Bourke (Blog Tour)

Tour hosted by Kismet Book Touring.

December 21, 2012

Will that fateful day destroy our world, or did the Mayans have something else in mind? Maya Delaney knows. Unfortunately.

Maya Delaney is just an average sixteen-year- old. She’s busy dealing with exams, her soon to be ex-boyfriend and fitting in. But Maya’s got bigger problems. She’s hiding a major secret from her dad and having strange visions she can’t control. In her struggle to figure out who she is, she learns that she is meant to fulfill an ancient Mayan Prophesy and bring forth a New Age on earth. Will the spirit magic Maya wields be enough to defeat Toltec, an evil society bent on keeping her from her destiny? Or will that destiny destroy her?

Character Interview: Lyssa and Damian
(a.k.a the Vasquez twins)

Why don’t we start off with an obvious question? Which of you is older?

DAMIAN: I am. Actually, I was born just before midnight, so we have our own birthdays —which is great.
LYSSA: Thank God for small favors.
DAMIAN: Nice, Lys.
LYSSA: I’m just sayin’.

You’ve been friends with Maya Delaney for a long time. She’s friends with both of you, right? Why do you think that is? It doesn’t seem like it’s very common.

DAMIAN: She obviously appreciates intelligence!
LYSSA: And a fabulous sense of style! Wait, are you sayin’ you’re smarter than me? ‘Cause that’s just BS.
DAMIAN: Ignore her.

So, you’re living your lives and suddenly your best friend finds out that she’s supposed to save the world. What do you do?

LYSSA: You gotta support her.
MATT: Absolutely!
DAMIAN: Hey Matt!
MATT: What’s up, guys?

Come on in and have a seat, Matt. For those of you who are wondering, Matt Caldwell, Maya’s mate, has decided to join us. Matt, did you hear that last question?

MATT: I did, thanks. The thing with Maya is that she puts everyone else first.
DAMIAN: Yeah, that’s true. If it had been one of us, she would have done anything to help.
MATT: Without question.
LYSSA: Plus, she’s our girl.
MATT: That she is, Lys (chuckles).

Now, how long have you all been friends?

DAMIAN: We met Matt in high school. I think Lyssa met Matt first and introduced Maya and me.
LYSSA: And the drool fest ensued.
MATT: Who drooled?
LYSSA: Oh, please.
MATT: I recall no drool.

You all have been through a lot these past few weeks. Any idea what might be on the horizon? Will you return to school? Do you miss your regular, everyday lives?

DAMIAN: At this point, it’s really hard to say. So much has happened and it’s happened so fast. In a way, it feels like this is the new ‘normal.’
MATT: Yeah, it really does. I don’t think I see us heading back to school any time soon.
LYSSA: Hell, no!
MATT: Ignore her.

Martha Bourke grew up in Burlington, Vermont, often considered a hub of “free thinking.” She was encouraged to write, act and be creative at a very young age. For most of her life, Martha has had a fascination with languages, culture and mythology – a passion that now colors and enriches her stories. A Spanish teacher, Martha continues with art on the side. She has written novels, short stories and poetry. But she admits to being totally “hooked” on YA Paranormal Romance.

Martha and her husband of thirteen years have carved out their own little piece of Vermont in the Massachusetts countryside. When not writing, Martha loves spending time with their animals, listening to good music, taking photographs, and adding to her Converse collection. She is currently working on book two of the Jaguar Sun Series, Jaguar Moon.
